Townsend Public Library, Townsend, Massachusetts -- History and Genealogy Section

The residents who use the Townsend Public Library, in Townsend, Massachusetts are the luckiest patrons, because their library was gifted to them in 2009. When we walked in, there was no doubt that this was new and huge. I was told two other buildings (Senior Center and Meeting Rooms) also connected to the library, of course I walked into all the rooms. There was no original or old section to this library. However, I was told where their previous library was, and we found it (shown below).

From a news article, "The previous library, The Hart Free Public Library, was 4,000 square feet and has now been rebuilt to the new 17,000 square foot building which features a senior center, meeting hall, and a library equipped with wireless internet access and 56 state of the art public access computers."


The History / Genealogy room was locked, and I didn't ask to be let in. From what I could see, it didn't look like there was a lot available for genealogists.
Sterilite Corporation was founded in 1939 in Fitchburg, MA as a partnership between Saul and Edward Stone and Earl Tupper, the inventor of Tupperware. The company moved to Townsend in 1968. This is the company that gifted the huge three building complex.

I walked up the steps and could look inside, as shown above by my photo taken through the glass pane. There right in front of me are stacks of books, and some look like account books. It's hard to believe that after all these years, nobody has cleaned this mess or moved these items.

Orr's Island Library, Harpswell, Maine -- History and Genealogy Room and War Memorials

Two weeks ago, we were in Maine again and I was able to visit three of the nicest librarians and enjoyed my private tours. The first of this group was the Orr's Island Library, in Harpswell, Maine.

I must not be very observant, because I've been by this library at least 25 times. Thanks to road construction, on the narrow road, we drove at a snails pace, and I finally saw it. Within minutes, we took one of the two empty parking spaces. The small library has one librarian, but don't count that against the library, as she seems to have everything under control. It is open year round, with a lot of community involvement. There is an annual book sale and fair, yard sale, patrons donate books, stuffed animals, paintings, boats and other items. The library publishes a very nice quarterly 6-page color flyer called, The Dust Jacket, they have, reading programs and lectures. Last night the topic was, "Harriet Beecher Stow and her connection to Orr's Island." Harriet lived in Brunswick and I was pleased to see her old house renovation project completed (I've taken pictures of the process.)
These six photos were taken in the original front room built 116 years ago, showing the old floor and ceiling. The homey room would be a nice place to linger in to read, chat or use their WiFi.

The history and genealogy books are on these shelves, as are books about fishing and sailing.


An addition to the right side of the building was completed in 2009 (photos above and below). The painting (below) was recently donated, and my husband absolutely loved it. I know it's hard to see the old bridge from this picture.

The librarian's desk, without a computer, but she does use library cards. Above, to the right, the photo shows the open door to the new addition built in 2009 (floor and ceiling match the original front room). Below shows the librarians desk again, the computer and desk with sign saying, "We now offer Ancestry Library" and entrance to the genealogy room. The Librarian does genealogy and we had a nice chat about that hobby.

The cabinet greets you as you enter the Library.

Surprise! A Name on a Harpswell, Maine War Memorial is Related to my Husband and I

Transcribing a memorial can provide a surprise.

In June, 2015 my husband and I went to Harpswell, Maine. I have been there several times before, but this visit was prompted by my seeing a great photos blogger, Pam Carter took of lilacs, a cattle pound and the old cemetery. I had to see them too. She didn't post a war memorial, so when I went with my husband to Harpswell, I automatically took pictures of the memorial for Heather Rojo's Honor Roll Project. While transcribing yesterday, I recognized a name, that of Elwood J. Campbell. He was my husband's uncle, and of course, me! Elwood passed away in 1969, as his wife a few years ago. I never met Elwood, but I know his two sons, who are still living. We always visit the cemetery where they were buried, the last trip was three weeks ago.

One of my future projects will be to research Elwood, and add more information about him to my tree. His military service was a surprise to my husband, and I immediately felt a connection because of Eldon's service. You never know whose names are on the memorials, unless you read them. A huge surprise might come your way.

Revolutionary Soldiers Buried in Woburn, Massachusetts

I went to the First Burial Ground in Woburn, Massachusetts in April 2015, for the purpose of finding some ancestors. One possible ancestor, and several family member's stones were located. On this cold windy day, I walked quickly and took quite a few photos. Along with the cemetery stones, I photographed the memorial marker for the Revolutionary War soldiers buried there. Eleazer Flagg Poole was my first cousin 6 times removed.

There Is A Lot to Like About Lowell -- The City Seal of Lowell, Massachusetts

"There is A Lot to Like About Lowell" is the city slogan.

The City Seal

The city council room. The seal is behind the back chair, just below the middle window. (Sorry I couldn't get a clearer photo of it, I'll try again.) The City Hall was built in 1893, and I'm assuming this room was too, including the handcarved seal.

The above was on the side of an official city parking van.
 Even the Segway has a seal! Another officer in uniform had three seals to his uniform, a patch with seal on his arm, a seal on his hat and a seal on his badge.

This seal is located next to the parking garage on Market Street, and has a lovely sitting area, especially in the spring.
Lowell has a city flag, with the seal, shown below with the American and state flags.

Even on a mural about 10' high, located in the Gallagher Terminal, there is the seal. This was among the first I ever saw, and at that point, I decided to see if there were others.

 The seal is shown on several of the information displays in the National Historical Park visitors center.

I never knew the history of the seal or the actual meaning. Those questions of mine are answered on the web page for the City of Lowell. Part is shared below.

Centered on the Seal is a mill from whose chimneys are rising black clouds of smoke into a “horn of plenty”, intended to signify that Lowell’s mills are the foundation upon which her prosperity rests.  At the bottom is a train and bales of cotton, signifying the cotton trade which led the City to become known as the “Spindle City.” At the left is the Merrimack River across which a bridge has been built; this is the Old Pawtucket Toll Bridge built in 1792. The Seal bears the inscription “Art is the Handmaid of Human Good”, which means that “Skill walks hand in hand with the good of the people.” The actual origin of the motto inscribed is unknown.

How to Find a Tombstone in the Old Cemetery in Lexington, MA, My Stearns / Stone for Tombstone Tuesday

This spring, I discovered I had the Stearns line, and made it my mission to see if any distant relatives were buried near where I live. As it turned out, my 8th great-grandaunt, Sarah Stearns was buried in Lexington, Massachusetts with her husband, Dea. Samuel Stone. Since I knew where the cemetery was, I thought it would be an easy find, especially since there was a photo on FindAGrave. I went two times, and couldn't find it, even with the help of my husband. Nothing looked remotely like the FAG photo, I think the sun or shadow was the problem.

I called the cemetery department to get the exact location, and spoke with the cemetery supervisor, who couldn't figure out their record-keeping system (clerk on vacation), then I waited a week and called her. She explained where my stone was, so we went again and still couldn't find it. Another call to the clerk and I suggested a map of the cemetery, she had one to send me. I received it 3 weeks later, after another call to remind her. I also received a partial list showing "my names" with their grave number. Seems there are many typed lists, and each grave has a number which corresponds to the map. (Copies of map and list are shown below.) Anyway, we finally found the stones in August and the lighting was perfect, but I waited over two months to post this because I had to take a photo of the red burning bush by the rock with the words "Ye Old Burying Ground."

During my conversations with the cemetery clerk, she offered to call the Town Hall to see what the status was regarding their updating cemetery records. I mentioned I wanted to get a listing so I could put it online for readers. I was told they were working on it right now and I could call back to find out the status. I said I'd do it in six months.

In the meantime, I discovered a full map of the cemetery, online (yes a Lexington site), and it's below. It would have been most helpful if the clerk had just given me the Stearns and Stone cemetery numbers (38 and 39), and the town website, then I could have found the map and their location in a minute or so, from home!

Tombs are the first thing you see if you enter at the rock marker below. There are three ways to get in the cemetery. The path that begins with the rock marker; park in the cemetery lot behind the First Parish-Unitarian Church; park in the St. Brigid Church lot, left of the large rock marker. See detailed map below.

The two church parking lots are shown on the Google map below, and the path is close to the H in Harrington Rd. (I have no idea why the Cemetery isn't marked.)

I found the above map at thisSite, you can see there is church parking on the left and right sides, and the path is in the middle. If you are looking for somebody in person or just want to know the grave number, call the cemetery office at 781-861-2718 and get the number of your gravestone. Then enlarge this map to see their location. Note: I suggest looking on FindAGrave first, just to be sure they were buried there. You'll have a much easier search than I had.

Veterans Day -- Seeing President Carter, Princess Diana and an Old Army Photo of Me

I have celebrated Veterans Day in some pretty unusual ways. I got to seePresident Carterat Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., this was written about in last years post. Another year, I got to see Princess Diana, also written about in a post.

Those were fun Veteran's days, described above. But for the more serious side, I offer this. I worked at the Veterans Administration (VA) in Washington, D.C. for about six years. Later, I was at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) a few blocks away from the VA and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I remember walking by the construction for the memorial, but once the names were inscribed, it took a good year before I could go back over there and see it. I just didn't want to see the names, especially the name of somebody I knew. The picture was taken in October. Below, is a picture of me. Please remember this day and what it means to you.

Freeport Community Library, Freeport, Maine -- State / History and Genealogy Collection

"Windows to the World"

The Library is kind of hidden away, not on the main road, and looks like a old school. It looks like there were barn-like buildings on both sides, but I soon found out they are all attached. Since some of my pictures are rather dark, so I enlarged them because they are worth seeing. If you are ever in Freeport, I hope you stop in there, enjoy the building and catch your breath from shopping.

A private porch meeting room! It is larger, but a patron was at a table behind me, so I moved up to take this. Imagine having a genealogy meeting here.
Lovely surprise to discover the Bartol Room (see the holdings) that "houses the library's local and state history collection as well as genealogical resources." They also have Ancestry.com Library edition. What I would give to sit in there, look out the windows and dream about ancestors or research. The librarian was very helpful, and was into genealogy. Unfortunately, she won't be there if you go, because she is retiring next month. When I took these photos, she had gone to get the director who then talked to me and showed me around.

The three photos below show how close you are in the woods. I was informed the architect is from Freeport and this was built on town land in 1997. The facility looks new, hard to believe it is almost 20 years old.

The old Freeport Library building is still owned by the town, but is rented to an outlet store next to L. L. Bean (to the right). One reason they had to move was because there was never any parking for the patrons. If you've ever been to Freeport, you know the shopping district is often one huge parking lot.

In May, I wrote about the beautiful old Frederick F. Ayer house, also known as the Franco American School in Lowell, Massachusetts. The following month, I went to Boston to tour the house Frederick had built in 1899-1903 by Louis Comfort Tiffany. What a treasure, and I hadn't even known it existed. Tours are held several times a month, you need to register and the cost is $10.
The grand staircase is made of marble and the wall covering was done in gold colored small pieces of tile (more photos and detailed history may be seen at this LINK.)
The Ayer Mansion is located at 395 Massachusetts Avenue is very modern looking, even though it was built in 1902.

This is the front parlor where the lecture began. The house is still being renovated, so we just saw a few rooms, but that was okay because everybody was in awe at what they saw.

I Googled POEM and FITCH POOLE and came up with This

Every year I try to find an appropriate poem to use in Bill West's 7th annual Great Genealogy Poetry Challenge. I wanted my poem to have something to do with history or was written by an ancestor or family member. The easiest way to find information is to do a search by doing a google search. I simply typed in the search bar, "Poem" and "Fitch Poole," bingo twice. The first thing that caught my eye, was an article in Industrial Chicago: The Bench and Bar book about Charles Clarence Poole, my great-grandfather. The second piece of luck was finding a poem, to be posted Wednesday.

Below is the article google pushed in front of me, with the search words in red. The nicest surprise was seeing a photo and autograph of my great-grandfather. I hadn't seen it before!

"C. CLARENCE POOLE. Some details in the life and antecedents of this prominent patent attorney will be welcomed by all who have a real interest in the history of the bench and bar of Chicago. This city, the seat of many important manufactures, the center of large publishing interests, and in whose courts many celebrated cases arising from questions of ownership or violation of patents, trademarks and copyrights have been tried, has assumed an importance in such litigation second to that of no other manufacturing and commercial center in the country. Here there has grown up a class of patent lawyers as able as any in the world, one of the most reliable and most successful of whom is the gentleman to whose career these paragraphs are devoted.

     Of Puritan lineage, Mr. Poole is a son of Charles Henry and Mary A. (Daniels) Poole and was born at Benicia, Cal., November 27, 1856. His father, a civil engineer by profession, was at the time in the service of the United States Government at that point. His mother was the daughter of Stephen Daniels, Esq., of Salem, Mass.
     The founder of the family in America was John Poole of Reading, Mass., who came to the Massachusetts colony in 1632, was one of the first settlers of Cambridge, and was later granted land at Reading, and became one of the principal citizens of that place.
     Mr. Poole is a lineal descendant of Governor Dudley and Governor Bradstreet of the Massachusetts Colony, and is a descendant also of Manasseh Cutler of Hamilton, Mass., a scholar and statesman, who graduated at Yale College, studied law and was admitted to the bar; studied, also, medicine and divinity; was a chaplain in the American Army and a noted patriot in the Revolution; was a long pastor of the church at Hamilton; achieved distinction by researches in botany and other scientific investigations; was chosen a director of the Ohio Company in 1787 and was the leading spirit in opening the Northwest Territory to settlement and the planting of the first colony in Ohio; was largely instrumental in securing the passage of the 'Ordinance of 1787,' by which slavery was excluded from the Northwest Territory, and was a member of Congress from Massachusetts. The family from which Mr. Poole comes has, in nearly all its branches and all generations, been noted for its scholarly tastes. Fitch Poole who was known as the 'Danvers Poet,' was his uncle, and Dr. William Frederick Poole, the distinguished librarian, author of 'Poole's Index,' and authority on New England history, and until his recent lamented death librarian of the Newberry Library in this city, was his cousin.
     Mr. Poole early displayed a talent for mechanical studies, which he has since utilized in the practice of patent law, a department of legal work for which his abilities especially quality him. His early studies were in the schools of Washington, D. D., and later he was fitted for the practice of civil engineering by studies under private instructors, and in 1874 and 1875 served as assistant engineer in surveys carried on by the Engineer Department of the army. Among the records of the War Department are a set of maps and plans for a projected canal from Cumberland, Md., to Pittsburg, Pa., which were made by Mr. Poole from notes taken in the field before he was nineteen years old. Mr. Poole, also, by private instruction fitted himself for entering the higher classes of one of the principal Eastern universities, with a view of attending the same for a short time and taking a degree, but not being able to carry out this project, and intending to devote his attention to patent law, he entered the law school of the Columbian University at Washington, where he was graduated in 1882, taking a prize for an essay on 'Trademarks' at his graduation. In the fall of that year he came to Chicago, which he deemed to be a good field for the particular practice upon which he had determined to enter. He was first associated Melville F. Dayton, well known to the legal fraternity as a mechanical expert in court cases involving mechanical questions, in practice before the United States Patent Office, and later, also, in legal work, with Taylor E. Brown.
     Mr. Poole, during his practice of patent law, has acquired a high reputation for skill and ability, both in the work of procuring patents and in the conduct of patent litigation, and he has been employed as counsel in many important cases both in the Patent Office and in the courts. His field of effort has not been confined to Chicago, but he has been called upon to represent important interests in many suits brought in other parts of the country.
     Mr. Poole married, in 1884, at Chicago, Anne Poole, daughter of the late Dr. William Frederick Poole, librarian of the Newberry Library, and since his marriage has lived at Evanston.

     Mr. Poole is literary in his tastes, and is a member of the Chicago Literary Club, of which the late Professor David Swing was an interested and active member, and which includes among its membership the best among Chicago's able and scholarly men. He has contributed occasionally to the columns of newspapers and periodicals articles on various topics, and has also contributed to the literature of his profession papers on special subjects, some of which have been prepared for and published by the Patent Law Association, an organization which embraces among its members all lawyers of prominence in this branch of legal profession in Chicago. Moreover, Mr. Poole is now, and for some time past has been, engaged in the writing of a treatise or text book, soon to be published, treating exhaustively of the law relating to the validity of letters patent as affected by the application for the patent and proceedings in the Patent Office prior to the grant. This work Mr. Poole is especially qualified to prepare, by reason of his extended experience in the matters treated of, and it promises, according to the judgment of patent lawyers who know of its intended character and scope, to be one of the most valuable contributions yet made to the literature of this branch of the law."

Frederick Ayer, Lowell Cemetery -- Tombstone Tuesday

I took this tombstone photo because I had written about Frederick Fanning Ayer's houses twice in my blog posts. The first post was about his Lowell house that later became the American school, formerly an orphanage. The second post was about his huge house in Boston, built by Louis Comfort Tiffany. When I learned that Mr. Ayer was buried in Lowell, after his 1918 death, I decided to post my pictures here.

Patten Free Library, Bath, Maine -- Sagadahoc County History and Genealogy Room

The Patten Free Library in Bath, Sagadahoc Co., Maine is last last library I visited this year. I'd been looking forward to seeing it for several months, and it didn't disappoint me. Our mini-vacation to Bath and other coastal towns didn't provide for a flexible schedule, so I was rather grouchy visiting on a rainy day, and seeing far fewer fall colors that my friend Barbara saw just the week before. Fortunately, she posted the above picture on facebook, and allowed me to use it.
Facing the library from library park, you see the original building and the Kennebec River. The charming readers greet you at the entrance.

When we visited the library at 11:00 A.M., I was well aware the History Room was not open (Hours: 12:30 - 4 P.M., Tuesday thru Saturday). Fortunately, I was able to ask the director if she would show me the room, after I explained I would be posting a small report to my blog. She was more than happy to take me upstairs, and answered my questions. It's a rather large room, packed full with books, file cabinets and technology items. Yes, I was very lucky she had the time to do this for me.




These two pictures show the library from the outside. It was built in 1890 for 15,000. Two additions were later added in 1961 and 1998.

THE LIBRARIAN'S EPITAPH, a Poem

The other day, I wrote a post called, I Googled POEM and FITCH POOLE and came up with This. I mentioned that every year I try to find an appropriate poem to use in Bill West's 7th annual Great Genealogy Poetry Challenge. I wanted my poem to have something to do with history or was written by an ancestor or family member. I knew exactly what I wanted when I found it...a poem by Fitch Poole, the first Librarian of the Peabody Institute Library and my 2nd great-granduncle.

Below is the article that came up and from reading it, I saw a poem that interested me, called "The Librarian's Epitaph." A simple click on the active link gave me the poem, but I had to increase the size to 500% in order to transcribe it for easier reading. A nice poem that met my criteria. I hope you enjoy it, although it's long, there is a message for us all. In addition, I posted his cemetery stone below.

THE LIBRARIAN'S EPITAPH

Here lie the bones of one who lived
In converse with the Sages,
His books he ranged in goodly rows,
And conn’d their title pages,
As in his life with dusty tomes,
His days with book-worms passed,
So now in death by other worms,
He is consumed at last.

The book of Nature he had scanned,
And then pronounced it “Good,”
His loving heart rejoiced to meet
His human brother “Hood,”
He often sought the Hawthornebower,
Twas ther “Young” life began,
Though still a “Child,” he found the “More”
His growing love for “Mann.”

With “Raikes” he oft was hand and glove,

Beneath this stone the “Sleeper” lies,
Himself now bound in boards,
This narrow “Trench” is all the space,

Two Andrew Ten Eycks and the 1793 Move to Canada

Two different articles pertaining to, two Andrew Ten Eycks' of Dunham, Quebec, Canada were located and transcribed. The first was was done circa 1999 by a 5th cousin and the second was done in 1941 by my grandfather. In the first article, Andrew talks about his great-grandfather Andrew Ten Eyck leaving Albany in 1793, carrying his possessions to Canada. The second article is a death announcement of the great-grandson, but there is more information about the great-grandfather than the newly departed.

"Mr. Andrew Ten Eyck has in his possession several articles of household furniture and farm implements that his great-grandfather brought from Albany in 1793, at the time he settled in Dunham.  Among the articles of interest we noticed an armchair, the history of which dates back to the early days of the colonists, previous to the Revolutionary War.  This ancient heir-loom has been handed down from father to son for five generations and is held by the family as a relic of priceless value.  Mr. Ten Eyck has a broad axe with which his grandsire hewed the logs into shape previous to building his first residence in the woods; also a red coat* formerly worn by his predecessors at the time New York was besieged by the Continental forces.  The coat is one of the "swallow tail" pattern, with the usual amount of yellow braid and gilt buttons.

The above articles are well preserved. Another memento of the past held by our worthy friend is a copy of the London Times, bearing the date of November 7th, 1805, containing a full account of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Lord Nelson.  The battle was fought on Monday, October 21st, the news of which was 16 days in reaching England.  Mr. Ten Eyck has also many articles equally interesting to the antiquarian and geologist, with a well kept library, containing the works of nearly all the poets and leading historians of the present age."

The above was from The Waterloo Advertiser, Friday, February 10, 1893, Waterloo, Shefford Co., PQ (National Library of Canada N-66948) -- Sent to me by Jim Johnson, a 5th cousin through our Westover line.

"It is with a feeling of sadness that I announce the death of Mr. Ten Eyck of Dunham, who died November 24, 1898, at the age of 80 years. Mr. Ten Eyck was a great grandson of Andrew Ten Eyck, an early pioneer who emigrated after the Revolutionary War and settled near Albany, NY, where he remained until 1795 or 1796 when he removed to Dunham with his family, where with other United Empire Loyalists at that time received a grant of land from the British government, a gift of which he was doomed not long to enjoy, his death taking place in 1799. Hendrick Ten Eyck, a son of the pioneer, came into possession of his father's property after his death, but not for long.  He died in 1816. Andrew Ten Eyck, the father of the late Andrew Ten Eyck lately deceased, fell heir to Hendrick Ten Eyck's property and remained on the homestead until 1831, the date of his death, leaving two sons and two daughters to inherit his wealth, all of whom are now dead, Andrew being the last one of the family.  Of the many hardships endured by the Ten Eyck family during the Revolutionary War a volume might have been written, as they were persecute from place to place by the enemies of Great Britain, who claimed the honor of having established a government where all men were made free and equal.  At one time, Andrew Ten Eyck the pioneer and another man were arrested and carried on board an American craft that was lying off New York harbor and was ready to sail on the following morning as a privateer.  During the night the two men with the aid of ropes let themselves down into the water and started to swim to the New Jersey shore three-fourths of a mile away, but were quickly discovered by the ship's crew, who commenced firing at them at close range tearing up the water around them.  Ten Eyck escaped to the shore, where he sat down and waited for his companion, whose fate was never known.  The Ten Eycks were true men who would sacrifice everything but honor in behalf of a friend in trouble, and the world of today is made better of their having lived."

2 Blanchard Brothers, Tiffany, First Buried, Stone Bridge, Leno, Andover and Medford, MA

When I discovered I had an 8th great-granduncle buried not too far from where I live, I knew I would have to visit the West Parish Cemetery in Andover, Massachusetts. The cemetery is huge and although I knew what the stone looked like, thanks to FindAGrave, I didn't know where it was located. Fortunately, I knew there was a small sign next to the stone, so that made the search easier. Within a short time, my husband found it. Written on the small Corian sign was, "Samuel Blanchard, April 23, 1707 First Burial in West Parish Cemetery and Oldest Stone in Andover."

The lovely 1909 chapel has 14 Tiffany windows! "This chapel is one of only two churches built in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with all of its windows made by the Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios of New York."
Both of these rose windows are 10' in diameter.

The brother of Samuel (above) was George Blanchard and the following day, I went out to find out where he was buried.

My 8th great-grandfather was buried in the Salem Street Cemetery in Medford, Massachusetts. This line is new to me, and I was pleased that I could visit both brother's graves. George Blanchard's daughter Rachel married John Smith and they settled in Killingworth, Connecticut. It is town I have the most events for my ancestors, total is over 1,537.

The Balch House of Beverly, Massachusetts Celebrated Many Thanksgivings

This house was built in 1636 by John Balch and is located in Beverly, Massachusetts and is maintained by the Beverly Historical Society. It is one of the oldest wood-frame houses in the United States. My photos show the various rooms.
The above guest book for visitors has been used since 1969. I first signed it about 16 years ago, and then On July 11th of this year. A facebook and blogger friend, Pam Carter signed it about a week before I did. She also did a more detailed blog post, which is excellent, so if you would like more information, I suggest you visit her site HERE.

The Huge Ancestry News as Reported from the Six Well-Known Bloggers

Many of you have already heard the recent news about Ancestry.com stating "we’ve made the tough decision to stop selling Family Tree Maker as of December 31, 2015." (Read more at the end of this post.) This post is for those who aren't on facebook or subscribe to Ancestry's blog. I am presenting several articles and links for you, since I subscribe to a lot of blogs and have many of these people as facebook friends. I am sure some of their information will be very helpful to you.

The notice on the upper right side is actually on my blog, Life From the Roots. It is shown on the home page (bottom right side) and lists my top 10 popular posts as determined by Google. You can see, the post is about a discount from Ancestry and is number 1. Originally, it was posted in April 2013, and I've updated it quite a few times. People are still reading this and getting the discount. I have no affiliation with Ancestry and because of what has happened, I plan on taking down that post on December 31st. You are welcome to see if my information is still valid for the discount. Note: I haven't been a subscriber for about a month, but will probably rejoin in the future.
